Color energy in your sacred space

§ April 8th, 2009

Most of us are so busy during the day that we have a hard time hearing that quiet voice of our inner guidance.

By creating your sacred space – a place dedicated to keeping your spiritual energy flowing – you can maintain your spiritual connection with life and All That Is. Indeed, just one little corner in your bedroom to retreat to and spend time alone in quiet meditation allows you to reflect on your day and focus on the goals you want to manifest. If you are religious and follow biblical doctrines, creating this type of sanctuary and alter is perfect for prayer as well as meditation.

Unless you already have a special, peaceful place set up in your home, I suggest you create a sacred space so you can take a few moments of silence each day – just for yourself.

Consider opening up any corner in a room and to create your sacred space there, or empty a closet of its clutter and toss a couple of pillows upon the floor for use in quiet prayer or meditation. It needs to be a place where you feel comfortable and you will not be disturbed. (Set boundaries by deciding who else is allowed into your sacred space.) A dresser top or small table can be your altar, a special setting for your sacred objects.

Once you have decided on the area, remove all clutter and dust and vacuum it. Next, invite new energy in to make your space a sanctuary of spiritual comfort. One way to quickly clear out old energy is to burn a sage smudge stick. You can also cleanse the space with a clearing meditation or by listening to uplifting spiritual music. Having a window open in your sacred space allows fresh air and sunshine for healing and happiness.

A fresh coat of paint on the walls might be nice, but if you’re in a rental home like me — and you have white walls that you can’t paint — you can get creative and decorate the walls with colorful sarongs and other hanging items that are special to you.

The final step in creating your sacred space is to have spiritually meaningful objects on and around your altar. I love color and like to fill my space with colorful personal items such as silk scarves, plants, flowers, feathers, crystals, sea shells, candles, tarot cards, photographs, a special silk sachet bag with lavender, soft pillows, and a journal. Other goodies could include wind chimes, a tabletop fountain, dream catcher, drum, harp, teddy bear, inspirational books, found items, grandma’s quilt, and any other pleasing visuals, sounds, or scents.

The most important thing about a sacred space is that you feel comfortable, safe, and relaxed there. You will soon find yourself drawn to your sacred space more and more as you make time for stillness, silence, and solitude.

You can change the color of silks on your altar to completely change your mood, energy, and intention. Each color has its own wavelength of vibrating light energy and frequencies of colors affect different energies of your body. Using color to restore balance and harmony is amazingly easy. Just pick a color to use in your sacred space, depending on what you want to focus on during your meditation or goal-setting session.

Red is for good luck, prosperity, energy, confidence and courage.
Orange is used for creativity and joy.
Yellow is for self-esteem, inner power, wisdom and positive energy.
Green is good to use for harmony, healing, balance, and abundance.
Blue is for communication, self-expression and visionary manifestation.
Purple is good to enhance psychic awareness, clairvoyance and intuition.
Pink is known for good health and life, connecting us to Universal love.

These photos show what this sacred space looks like with an emphasis on pink (good health and life, love), as well as blue-green accents (emphasizing healing, balance, and manifestation). I change the colors of the accent silks often, depending on my mood.

While I have a sacred space in the corner of my bedroom just for me, we also have a “family altar” in our dining room with a special feather, sea shells, a painted dish, and affirmations written on small pieces of paper in a small terra cotta pot. The pieces of paper have words written on them such as joy, love, abundance, fun, happiness, and so on. We all pick a piece of paper out of the pot and discuss what that word means to us, which typically reinforces gratitude and the law of attraction.

The colors of the silks and different flowers are used, depending on the season or what we want to focus on. For instance, when we use an orange silk, we focus on joy, and when we use green, we focus on health and abundance.

My daughter has created a sanctuary in her room with her special items on a table. She keeps a journal of her dreams and loves the color blue, horses, pandas, and dolphins.

If you travel and like the comfort of having some of your sacred items with you, you can simply roll a few things in a silk and then set up your items in a hotel room. Items, in addition to a silk cloth, could include photographs, shells, and crystals and anything else meaningful that can be carried on an airplane.

By harmonizing the vibrations of our space and creating sacredness in our day-to-day life, we can transform little corners of our home into sanctuaries of positive energy, health, and harmony.

Color IS Energy

§ February 3rd, 2009

Color is more than “just” decoration and pleasure to our eyes.

Color is energy – wavelengths of vibrating light energy – that appears as colors because of the capability of an object to absorb or reflect energy. Light, or color, affects the body in scientifically measurable ways, and the frequencies of colors affect different energies of the body.

It has been known for thousands of years that color plays a major role in setting a mood or state of mind. Some think color therapy and using color to influence mood, appetite, and even our energy levels is a combination of mystical and spiritual knowledge. True, but color can be explained scientifically in terms of wavelengths and vibrations. Each color has its own wavelength, which can be attuned to the other colors (or vibrations) to alter a function or balance the system, similar to the way musical notes are tuned to each other to achieve harmony.

Einstein, through his equation E=mc2, determined that energy is matter—and that there are finer energy sources at work in living systems besides the visual and mechanical interactions.

Much of the mainstream Western world seems to be trapped in mechanistic approaches with health, ignoring energy or color vibrations. Yet scientists who have studied color and light extensively recognize that colors bring about emotional reactions and physical changes to individuals. While the history of light therapy originated from ancient cultures in India, China, and Egypt, these teachings are rapidly gaining worldwide attention from those interested in drugless energy practices.

We are empowered by becoming aware of and learning to work with these vibrations/energies.

Using color to restore balance and harmony is amazingly easy. Have you taken inventory of your closet lately or looked at the colors you use in your home or office space? You may be in a rut and need to introduce some new color into your life.

(1) Red – Powerful and Confident

Red is related to the root, 1st chakra, known for good luck, prosperity, energy, confidence and courage. Red carries the energy of fire element in feng shui. It represents the energy of the sun and life and signifies richness, passion and luxury. Red is excellent to use in the South (fame and reputation area of your home or work space. A balanced feng shui fire element is said to bring a supportive energy in all of your career efforts and will help you achieve recognition.

(2) Orange – Energetic and Creative

Orange is associated with the 2nd chakra, creativity and joy. Orange is a feng shui fire element color , embodying the energy of the sun and life. Fire is the feng shui element of the South (fame and recognition) and is also recommended in the Northeast (education and knowledge) and Southwest (love and marriage) areas of your home or work space.

(3) Yellow – Cheerful and Happy

Yellow is associated with the 3rd chakra, self-esteem, inner power, wisdom and positive energy. Feng shui fire element colors include yellow, embodying the energy of the sun and life. Fire is the feng shui element of the South (fame and recognition) and is also recommended in the Northeast (education and knowledge) and Southwest (love and marriage) areas of your home or work space.

(4) Green – Nurturing and Balancing

The heart is the seat of prosperity. Green is associated with the heart, 4th chakra, representing harmony, healing, balance and abundance. Green signifies the universal color of healing and the feng shui color of renewal, fresh energy, and new beginnings. It belongs to the wood element and is good to use in the East (health and family), South (fame and recognition), and Southeast (wealth and prosperity) areas of your home or work space. It is also an expression of abundance, thus an ancient feng shui cure for wealth and prosperity.

(5) Blue – Serenity and Calm

Water is the ancient symbol for abundance and prosperity. The throat, 5th chakra associated with blue, is the center of communication, self-expression and visionary manifestation. In feng shui, blue represents the water element to be used in the East (health and family) and Southeast (wealth and abundance) areas of your home or work space. A harmonious feng shui water element brings a refreshing energy of calm, ease, purity and freshness.

(6) Purple – Insight and Leadership

The third eye, 6th chakra, symbolizes the center of psychic awareness, clairvoyance and intuition. It is where we receive supernormal powers and experiences, the place we see, hear and sense that which is ordinarily hidden. Purple is associated with spirituality, perception, leadership and truth and embodies the fire element in feng shui. It is recommended in the South (fame and recognition), Northeast (education and knowledge) and Southwest (love and marriage) areas of your home or work space.

(7) Pink – Love and Good Health

Pink is associated with good health and life. Pink is the secondary color of the heart, 4th chakra, known for love, healing and abundance. The pink family carries the energy of the fire element in feng shui. Pinks are soothing and healing and connect us to Universal love. The widest use of pink colors in feng shui is in the Southwest area (love and marriage) of your home or work space.
